A loaded stance and an explosive first step to win the snap before the blocker sets.
Hand fighting
Strike, shed, club, swim and rip. Using the hands to control the blocker instead of being controlled.
Pass rush plan
Building a go-to move, counters off it and a plan for each type of blocker.
Run defense
Reading blocks, holding the gap, squeezing down blocks and getting off blocks to make tackles.
Leverage and pad level
Playing low and staying square so bigger linemen can't move you off the ball.

My son plays both ways. Can we work on both?
Yes. Sessions are built around each athlete, and many linemen split time between offense and defense.
